Biography

My job on the Selma Dean Team is to provide spiritual counseling, pastoral counseling, and educational programming on emotional healing.

In addition to writing this blog, I also provide spiritual counseling to clients per referral.  For more information on my counseling services, please email me.

 Former Experience

I am a retired educator. Since marrying a military man in 1978, our travels gave me the opportunities to teach school in Georgia, Texas, South Carolina, and the Department of Defense Dependents Schools(DODDS) in 3 regions of Germany. In addition, I taught GED preparation courses, and Domestic Violence prevention to U.S. Army personnel. However, my most memorable teaching assignment was homeschooling our 3 children! I was also fortunate to serve as School Programs Coordinator with the start-up team for EdVenture Children’s Museum in South Carolina.

I am an entrepreneur. I founded and directed the Joyfull Music Group for piano and voice lessons in 1995. Joyfull Music Group was eventually renamed Joy Full after adding other educational programs such as summer camp programs, choral music workshops, and an after-school group piano keyboarding program.

I am an ordained minister. My passion for spiritual counseling evolved during 42 years in church ministry. My services included: Bible teacher, musician and choir director, music director, and Christian Education leader in 5 states and 3 regions of Germany.

Most recently, I served as a volunteer chaplain with the Spiritual Care Department of a Northern Virginia medical center.

My Education

Opportunities to volunteer my services to people outside of the “church doors” are what inspired my return to graduate school to earn the Doctor of Education Degree in Pastoral and Community Counseling. My graduate dissertation was titled, Exploring Centering Prayer with Centering Prayer Practitioners. My other professional preparation includes: M.A. in Health and Physical Education, B.S. in Education, and B.A. in Music.

My Family

I have been married to my husband, Larry B. Dean for 36 years. We live in Manassas, Virginia near Washington, D.C. We have 3 adult children: Glori, Vashti, Larry II. We boast proudly of our 3 grandchildren and our 5 adopted grandchildren.

 My Free Time

I love reading, writing, walking, and playing the piano. Larry and I love planning vacations with our children and grandchildren. We attend Grace Covenant Church in Chantilly, Virginia.
